I Have Waited For This Day, Too.

It is going to to take me a while to forget that moment. Surrounded by her bridesmaids and mother, the bride was stressing about the first look and if everything was as they were supposed to be. I let her know we were ready for the first look. Behind me walked her father. He caught a look of his daughter and immediately his tears could not be controlled. I asked if he wanted a photo with his baby, fighting the emotions he said yes. I walked him to the bride who said no to the request. Said we didn’t have time for “this” and to go sit down. My heart broke for him. This was his day too.

To save time, another bride and groom wanted to omit the dance with their parents. I couldn’t. Let’s just do the dance. I will add 30 minutes to the package. Those 30 minutes are my gift to your parents. This was their day too.

I discovered this will always be an emotional moment for me. When I was a bride, my father was absent. He passed away before he could walk me down the aisle or share our first dance. This was his day too.

Now that I am a mom, it became an even bigger soft spot. Every since my son was born, I have danced with him. I know the day we dance at his wedding, will be hard for me to hand him over to his wife. I pray already for whoever she might be. My husband on the other hand, has already picked his song to dance with our daughter from the time she was still in my belly. This will be our day too.

Bride or groom, if you have taken the time to read this blog and this far, take the time to allow your parents, grandparents, and family to celebrate with you, they too have waited for this milestone. And if you are unfortunate to no longer have your parent(s) here, I’ll share my favorite idea. Take a cloth that belonged to them and have it attached to the inside of your dress or suite.

Whatever the stages of the planning or wedding, I am your photographer and there to support you and your family along the way. With this camera, allow me to preserve memories for you, and yours.
