Say Yes an Engagement Photo Session. Here’s Why.

So, it happened. After years of photography and running my website, I have decided on this day to start blogging. I’ll start each blog by telling you what music I am listening to. I love music, you can be in the worst mood and turn on a song, and just like that you’re ok. I am listening to Lady Gaga a Million Reasons. So please bear with me, I have never done a blog before. I have decided to just give you me, I talk a lot and my thoughts shift from topic to topic, so just hang in there. I have a degree in sarcasm and like to show it off.

So why am I blogging today, and chose this topic? The engagement session. Well, today I had an amazing consultation with a couple. Like I worked the nurse night shift and we did our video call in the morning. I was so excited about this call I struggled to fall asleep due to excitement. Yes, I too get excited about your wedding, sad I know lol. Anyways, we had a talk and I answered random questions and thought, it’s a shame I am not sharing this with my brides. My consultation or not scripted, and neither are my emails. I just say what I think I need to say or write because each bride or groom, or couple for that matter is different. So what if I forget to tell the next bride or groom. Well, I’ll just blog it and hopefully he or she will read it and know a little more about my engagement and wedding process.

Well the song has changed, it’s Calum Scott You Are The Reason. I am a sucker for a good love song. I wish I could sing cause that would be the only way I had conversations. I listen to all types of music, not the new stuff, I love songs that get your memories coming back and awaken memories that made you feel like the artist knew exactly what you were going through. Like I said, hang in there. So, should you have an engagement session or not? Well, I am a photographer so of course I will say yes. Not to make an extra buck, but because I have my own reasons behind it. I love seeing couples alone and them looking at each other and realizing what are we doing? Are we really getting married? I love you so much. The value of an engagement session for me is that you get to have a trial run on hair and makeup. You do not want to find out at you wedding day during the first dance that your hair is not holding up, pins have dropped, and your makeup cannot tolerate tears, sweat, or the DJ lights. While you’re looking done and a hot mess, I am still taking photos. So yeah try out the vendors.

My most favorite reason for an engagement session is to allow you as a couple to feel comfortable in front of the camera. To have you feel comfortable having me tell you to kiss, and touch. Or for me to touch you and say your hands looks better here and straighten your spine. You learn the tips and tricks for posing and interacting with each other to create the results I want to create for you. You already know how to pose, adjust, and move for me and your family and guest will be like oh wow, they look so natural taking photos together, they are so in love. Weddings were I have done their engagement, I end up giving little direction and we “dance” together through the wedding. They already know me! And I already know you are self conscious about this or that body part and you already know how to adjust for the best photos.

I love doing engagements so much and learning to work with my couples that I include it into my wedding package just because I know the difference it makes for my couples, the experience, the comfort, the trust, and the total photography experience. So, to make a short story longer, YES! Schedule an engagement. You’ll be relieved you did. Plus you need to show off your fiance!

Yeah, I did my first blog!! (wipes a tear and taps her own shoulder).
